Unlike many departments in the region, the NLCFD has a strong and dedicated volunteer division to back up the paid units wherever they are needed. The volunteers of the department staff all second piece engines, tankers, brush trucks, and other non staffed units. Many volunteers choose live at the station with their paid counterparts, and run on many calls with them.

This option of having volunteers greatly expands the NLCFD's ability to respond to large and diverse incidents without having to rely on mutual aid departments. Few other departments boast this asset and flexability.

The volunteers train on a regular basis and are constantly looking to expand their abilities and knowledge. Recently volunteers took over the responsibilties of running medical first responder duties using the department's arsenal of brush trucks. Seldom a day goes by where the NLCFD is not greatful for having such proud and dedicated volunteers working side by side with their paid counterparts.

Service through Courage 24/7.
